Is Done Better Than Perfect, or is Good Not Enough?

Are you familiar with the following quotes?

  • “Done Is Better Than Perfect” said by Sheryl Sandberg, an American technology executive, author, and billionaire.

In contrast:

  • “If better is possiblegood is not enough” said by Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.

Signing Off That Project

How Do You Know, When Your Project Is Complete?

As an Agency Owner and Businesswoman, I’m often faced with the difficult job of signing off a project for completion.

For us, this is usually the handing over of a new website or the creation of graphics and design work.

Ultimately though:

It is always our Clients, whom get the last say as to whether they are 100% happy with our work and whether they require changes or amendments.

However, making the decision to say this work is now ready for our Client’s eyes, has always been a struggle for me.

Mainly because I’m plagued with Perfectionism and also, in honesty, a little self-doubt.

Always Aiming For Perfection

Therefore, I’m forever wanting to tweak a project, or add another little touch to make it just right.

I find it’s one of the most challenging aspects of our creative profession, to just develop the ability to let go!

Obviously in business, there are many factors that can influence a project’s completion date.

Such as:

  • Timescales
  • Budgets
  • Functional and creative objectives

Though, like all things in business and life, I often find that balance is the best approach, between aiming for perfection and knowing when a project is complete.

Likewise, balancing out the many aspects that influence a project’s completion date.

So, what is your opinion?

Is done better than perfect, or is good not enough?

And finally, how do you know, when your project is complete?
